All Winter Tyres Stuff

To my surprise, Winter tyres were still very popular in the field of retailing tyres. Of course this type of tyres were more expensive, but would wear better. So, and their casing quality was second to none. The casing is the tyre that has used all of the tread and then can be used for remoulding. The remoulding option would give the original purchase a second and third life. This is the reason that these tyres are very cost effective in the long run.

Wow a great article to read!!!

Michelin winter tyres and Mums

This is a great time for the tyre trade in general. Because of the good vibrations that I am picking up from female friendly organisations. Thus, that are educating their online readers with information about tyre related topics.
The one I have recently picked up on. Has been published by an organisation known as “Mumsnet” and posted on www.attachmentmummy.com .
This organisation interviewed women. Asa result, about their knowledge of winter tyres and tyre matters in general. I have published the questions and answers. Hence, on my blog in the same graphic style. In general the answers were what we could expect. But I was impressed with the number of women. Who did know about tyres and in particular winter tyres. In fact 62% of the ladies that were interviewed. Therefore, said that they would consider buying winter tyres for their cars. This figure falls in line with the big picture . Of the increase in winter tyre sales in the UK. Hence, over the past five or six years and most tyre companies are taking the winter tyre market very seriously now here in the UK.
This has also been driven by a string of bad winter weather, in fact as I am writing this post, the forecast is for bad weather conditions for the next two weeks and this will strengthen the demand for the winter tyre products. Michelin winter tyres are a favourite amongst the big car owners such as the BMW’s and the Mercedes, with the rest of the market being shared by the other companies that manufacture winter tyre products.

Mums buying Michelin winter tyres is not a new thing

The trend of women becoming more advanced in the knowledge of their cars is nothing new to me. I have been writing about the advancement of the female drivers for a few years now. No longer is the car the domain of the man? You only have to look in your own family circle to realise the number of female drivers and car owners that there is. One of the first things a young woman will do when she leaves school or college is to pass her driving test and buy her first car.

michelin winter
Ladies are now very compitent when t comes to buying tyres

When I was young the girls were not interested in cars and preferred to leave the driving to the boy’s, but now the situation has equalised and a young women is just as likely to buy a car has a young male, how the tide has changed.
This change has been picked up by the large tyre companies, with their adverts now targeting female drivers, such as this joint article, backed by Michelin. Indeed I am convinced that the tyre industry on the whole will be run by a mixture of male and female staff, as females get more and more interested in working in the car industry.
Many tyre companies now employ female staff, indeed my depot managers is a woman and does an excellent job, with the added extra benefit of being able to communicate with our increasing number of female customers.

Dunlop Winter Tyres

Dunlop are not at the forefront of winter tyres development.

The product is probably as good as any other tyre manufacturers winter tyres but, the are not very well published, at least not in the Yorkshire area of the UK.

I will however do my next winter tyre article about the Dunlop winter tyres product because it is something that i have sold all my life.

Dunlop winter tyres

I think that it must be a nationwide thing. Now that the drivers in the UK are switching to safer tyres in winter time. It has taken a few years to sink in. But all the hard work that the tyre industry has put into the cause is now paying off and as a result Britain’s roads will be a safer place to drive on this winter.
The other countries in the EU have been way ahead of us in the past. Even passing national laws to make drivers fit winter tyres. This move was led by the Germans and quickly spread to other European countries. I know that the islands that make up the UK have a maritime climate. But I am convinced that the weather is now going through a colder stage, making our winters more unpredictable.
We can have cold and snowy weather at any time between November and the following March and so it is best to be well prepared and make sure that your car is also well prepared by fitting winter tyres.

Dunlop Winter Tyres; catching up with winter tyre development

As regular readers of my blogs will know.  I used to work for Dunlop many years ago. Thus I have a soft spot for the one time giant tyre company. Dunlop rally tyres were once one of the favorites. The tyres were fitted on rallies all over the country. The winter tyre market has helped the development, from the trials and tribulations of rallying, learning many things, such as tread design along the way.
Dunlop tyres seemed to fall behind in my opinion and the other great tyre companies led by Michelin moved ahead in the winter tyre market place, developing a large string of great winter tyre products.

Dunlop Winter Tyres

However Dunlop now appears to be catching up with their latest winter tyres the Winterport D4 and D3 and the M3 and the Winter-response tyres. These four winter tyres will cover the range of different performing cars in the market place. From your regular road cars, to the large sedans from Germany, such as the BMW’s and Mercedes.
Dunlop also uses the latest silica compounds and multi sipes to dissipate the slush and water that the winter will throw at them. The new Dunlop’s look a good product to me and will fit into the already huge winter tyre market.

Continental Tyres-Have made first Winter tyres-using Dandelion

Believe it or not my other interest in life other than a garage owner has been my love of nature and keeping different animals as pets. One of my favorite pets to keep in the beginning was rabbits and guinea pigs. These animals have always been a good type of animal to keep when starting out looking after pets. Some people think it is cruel to keep animals in small living quarters, but I am convinced that it set me on the road to become a sensible caring person in later life and as a businessman, passing good attributes onto my staff, to help create a good working environment.

Continental Tyres-Have made first Winter tyres-using Dandelion
The humble dandelion will now be used to help make new tyres.

To get back to the point, I used to walk a couple of miles each morning to collect greens to feed my animals with. One of their favorite greens was the humble dandelion. The thing that many people will notice about the dandelion is that when you pick them, they leek out a sticky white substance. I used to wonder if ever this liquid could ever have a beneficial use, in medicine or industry.
When I grew up and went into the tyre industry I always wondered about the similarity of the dandelion juice and the latex that was drawn from trees to manufacture rubber. It was also similar to a product that was used to self- seal tyres if they had a small puncture with, a white sticky latex type substance.

Continental Tyres-Have made first Winter tyres-using Dandelion

I could not believe that now in my later years. Continental tyres have worked together with an organisation known as the “Fraunhofer Institute”. To actually develop this by-product of nature. Latex from the dandelion plant. As a result, into making tyres. Thus  the very thing that has kept me and my family in a living all these years. The molecular structure of the humble dandelion is very similar to the latex. Which is grown for the tyre and rubber industry. Naturally, in vast forests in warmer parts of the world.

Continental Tyres-Have made first Winter tyres-using Dandelion
Russian varieties of dandelions will be grown in vast quantities.

The plants that have been used are a variety of dandelion from Russia. Hence, and can be grown anywhere in the temperate regions of Europe.

They have been grown in vast quantities all around the Continental factories. Throughout the continental Europe. This is a great environmental achievement. So and earlier this year (2014). Then the German tyre company was awarded an environmental and economic prize . Known as the “Green Tec Award” in the automobile category. Something that Continental tyres are truly proud off.

Continental Tyres-Have made first Winter tyres-using Dandelion

The humble dandelion was always seen as a weed. hence, to many gardeners . But in recent times has been recognised as been one of the earliest wild plants to flower. Providing nectar and pollen for early bees and butterflies. It now also used in flower schemes because of its early flowering. Besides, where it was once hacked down as a weed. So it is now left in situ to flower. Therefore, this new development from Continental. Will put the dandelion up there with all the other important finds. In the search for a greener planet. Continental tyres are to start building tyres using the dandelion latex

The research has been going on for a number of years now. So armed with a large acreage of Russian dandelion plants. Grown around the tyre factory. They decided to use the new product now known as “Taraxagum”, in the manufacture of some experimental tyres.

continental tyres
The new material will be called “Taraxagum”

The tyres that are used are winter tyres because they already contain a large amount of natural rubber.

The winter tyres natural rubber has been completely replaced by the new marketing name teraxagum, and will be extensively tested this winter near Hanover in Germany and also in Sweden where the temperature gets very low.

Continental Tyres-Have made first Winter tyres-using Dandelion

Dr. Andreas Topp, Head of Material and Process Development says… “The development process of Taraxagum has been very promising so far and we are continuing the industrialization together with our partners. We are very confident. That our current research results will be confirmed. Especially, through the tyre tests. So that they will meet the performance targets,”
In my opinion Continental tyres have struck gold. Hence, with this new product. It will also save billions of Euro’s in transport costs. Because the dandelions will be able to grow here in Europe . Close to the tyre manufacturing plants. The new tyres will undergo many trials. Before they a released for sale. A time period of ten years has been mentioned.

Winter Tyres- Nokian Recommend Planning Ahead-For Winter Tyre Products Tire Review Magazine

Winter Tyres- Nokian Recommend Planning Ahead

Winter Tyres- Nokian Recommend Planning AheadWhile spring seems a strange time to be thinking about snow and ice, it’s the best time for dealers to get a jump on winter tire plans.

Winter Tyres- Nokian Recommend Planning Ahead

There is no doubting, that Nokian are perhaps the best winter tyres on the world market. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that there winter tyre stocks are depleted as soon as they are produced.

It is therefore frugal to place an order for your tyres straight after the current winter. Consequently, we do not know how hard the next winter will be. So pre-ordering makes lots of sense. Especially in countries where the winters are harsh. Accordingly, countries like Canada and the mountainous areas of North America.

Nokian winter tyres have a great reputation in these countries. Hence, winter tyre stocks could run low. Especially when the winter snow arrives. Steve Bourassa, director of products and pricing at Nokian Tyres recommends dealers such as Pellon Tyres in Yorkshire UK, should stock up with winter tyres as soon as possible.

When there gone ,then there gone?

Winter Run Flat Tyres now available in the tyre Market Place.

Winter Run Flat Tyres now in the Market Place.

One thing about the tyre industry. Moreover, is diversity and flexibility of the products that they produce. Especially, in recent times. All this recent innovation and technology. Thus, has been driven from the car manufacturers. Who in turn have been driven by governments. Hence, to produce tyres that are more safety conscious. Such as the run flat technology. Along with tyres with a greater rolling resistance. This is  to help improve the cars greener qualifications. As a result, such as the new ranges of Eco tyres. That tyre companies are producing in recent times.

winter run flat tyres
Dunlop make an excellent winter tyre for run flat cars

The winter run flat tyres are no exception. It is not that long ago that the run flat tyres came onto the market. I was one of the critics that thought that they would never catch on. But how wrong was I? Now they are part of the everyday garage owner’s life. Subsequently, we are getting these tyres in for customers on a daily basis. Drivers seem to be getting used to the higher prices that they have to pay for extra safety.
This is also includes another recent addition the flexibility of the tyre manufacturers, and that is winter run flat tyres.

European tyre laws would have had to include run flat winter tyres

This new phase in tyre development would have had to be brought on by the tyre manufacturers that make tyres for the car makers as original equipment. Some of the EU countries have to fit winter tyres by law, from November to March the following year, and so this would have left a gap in the market leaving the cars that are on run flats nowhere to go in winter, unless they fitted a normal winter tyre to a run flat rim, which is not recommended and would have caused problems with insurance companies as well as the cars not having a spare wheel.

Nokian run flat winters

Nokian have  always been a fast thinking tyre company and to develop a winter tyre with a run flat capability would have been no problem for them. The winters have been made within their winter tyre range. The Nokian Winters are well known for their compound mixes which includes flexible polymers and this includes silica, in line with other tyre manufacturers. This gives the tyres a better performance in winter temperatures, as well as cornering and braking performance.

Yokohama winter run flat tyre
Yokohama winter run flat tyre

The tread design of these tyres is isometric, with three or four (depending on the width due to the tyre size) main draining channels around the circumference of the tread, giving maximum drainage and snow clearance. These tyres are made to drive a BMW down the Autobahn (German Motorway) at great speeds and then driving up the mountains to a ski resort, without knowing that your tyres are in fact winter tyres, the same now applies to winter run flat tyres, you will have the best of both worlds, safety and excellent service in the winter weather.

Dunlop run flat winter tyres

As another of the world’s finest tyre makers, Dunlop also makes a range of run flat winter tyres. The Dunlops are also available in a couple of different tread pattern, one of the most popular is the Dunlop winter sport M3 tyre. As in line with Yokohama these tyres include silica in their compound mix to give the tyres that extra flexibility in temperatures below 7 degrees, the temperature at where the summer tyre compound will start to go rigid and not function correctly. The tread design also gives great traction and a solid braking and steering performance.

Bridgestone now make a run flat winter tyrewinter run flat tyres

Bridgestone are at the moment the world’s number one tyre maker and it is no surprise that they have been at the forefront of making winter run flat tyres. The tyre comes in the tyre range under which the Blizzak winter tyre resonate from and are designed to fit and compliment the BMW 1,3 and 5 series, not forgetting the Z4 and the BMW Mini range. All these winter tyres are adding more safety, to an already ultra-safe product.

Snow Tyres-Now Are Also Known as Winter Tyres – Boston.com

Snow Tyres

Snow Tyres

Have been around a long time. But now it’s time for a name change.

Tyres for winter were known as Snow tyres in early days. From the nineties on. These tyres were developed to cope with better cars . So and better road surfaces. So away went the heavy tread patterns. That were associated with the old snow tyres. In came the tyres with more and more refined tread patterns. Complete with sipes. To get rid of the slush and snow from building up in the tyres tread. Also, they were now much better in just wet rainy conditions. Tyre makers also introduced silica in the tyres compound. Thus, to reduce the freezing affects when the temperature fell below 7 degrees. This has helped cars drive in winter time. Hence, with much better handling and steering. Which keeps the car on a straight course when braking heavily.

Also a tyres pressure drops by 10psi when the temperature drops below freezing a fact that is seldom mentioned. Also winter tyres are better designed to be fitted on the vast range of SUV vehicles that have emerged onto our car market over the past 10 years.

The old snow tyres would not have coped with the handling qualities of these specialized vehicles in winter time

they would have been too rigid and heavy on the tread pattern, it would have been like fitting heavy duty off road 4×4 tyres on to your SUV, they would have been very noisy and difficult to handle on a normal dry road in between spells of bad

snow tyres
Firestone winter tyres are now regarded as the old fashioned type snow tyres used in the late 1960’s

weather.

Now that we have the development of the winter tyres, these vehicles act and can be controlled to a far better standard, you would not even know that you have had winter tyres fitted.

Budget winter tyres a false economy, says Continental – Tyrepress.com

budget-winter-tyres-a-false-economy-says-continental

budget-winter-tyres-a-false-economy-says-continental

budget-winter-tyres-a-false-economy-says-continental

When the budget is tight the car may end up staying in the driveway a few years longer than planned, and the temptation to plump for a cheaper set of winter tyres is strong. But Continental argues that it…

I agree that the better the winter tyre then the more expensive it will be. But in my humble opinion a cheap winter tyre is better than no winter tyres at all. The braking distances are important. But we are still living in a cash starved society. Most  people will only be able to afford what they can. So buying budget winter tyres will be better than none .

Budget Winter tyres are better than none

At first this looks like sour grapes coming from Continental tyres. But in the end they are in a huge battle. To hold up their share of the tyre market. Also the bigger tyre companies are now realising. What a great job that  tyre retailers have done. As a result over the past five or six years. In promoting the safety aspects of winter tyres.

—–
The upsurge in the take-off of winter tyres has been a success for the cheap winter tyre makes. I can only speak for my own area, because different areas of the country have populations of varying wealth. Here I Halifax we on the lower side of the wealth scale, due partly to the fact that we are an old wool producing mill town and in my opinion we have been neglected by various governments over the years, as far as any re-development has been concerned, with many of the traditional large businesses shutting down or

re-locating.

budget-winter-tyres-a-false-economy-says-continental

This does not reflect on the great people of Halifax who have knuckled down and made the best of what they have. Anyway I digress? Going back many years we had a spell of very mild winters, with only a few days of snowfall in any given winter. Because of the very hilly nature of this area, there has always been a certain amount of the population who did fit winter tyres to their vehicles. These were wealthy company bosses and farmers. Who needed to get about even in bad snowy conditions?

As far as I can remember winter tyres were never a priority for the bigger tyre companies, they never promoted these products. Then we were hit by a run of very bad winters and it was the importers who were the quickest to respond to the demand of the winter tyre market. There are now hundreds of tyre manufacturers from China competing with the likes of Continental tyres and I believe that they are starting to feel the pinch.

Bridgestone Tyres-Encourages Motorists to Consider Tyre Safety in the Winter

Source: www.tyreblog.co.uk

Bridgestone Tyres is actively encouraging motorists to switch to winter products. This message comes with the aim of boosting tyre safety in the upcoming cold months. With the conditions all set to become more and more unpredictable, and with the increasing number of casualties due to unsafe tyres, Bridgestone has taken it upon itself to educate people about the importance of tyre safety in winter.

http://www.pellontyres.co.uk/Tyre/Details/Bridgestone/Blizzak+LM20

Bridgestone Winter tyres

In all my experience I have never known any winter tyre that stands out above the others. There are many reasons why our customers prefer a certain brand or even type of tyre. We have a few particular instances that stick out, one of them is a guy who imports and fits carpets. His work takes him to all over Europe, and he travels thousands of miles a year. His main destination is Belgium, because of their large carpet manufacturing industry.
The only thing that he will fit in his Mercedes Sprinter long wheel base van is Michelins. The guy just did not want any old Michelin’s he wanted Michelin Agillis Alpin winter tyres. The man insisted on nothing else and sometimes we have to get them from Holland for him. He says that he gets all year round grip and feels totally confident in all road conditions and any inclement weather.

Bridgestone Tyres

Another thing that we always see. Some drivers will only stick to the make of tyre as original equipment. These tend to be middle-class gentlemen.  A good example is the owners of new VW cars. These are the guys who ask for the Bridgestone brand of tyres.
Although Bridgestone tyres come out in all sorts of makes of cars.  VW cars are one of the most modern cars to have these tyres fitted. Audi cars are also equipped with the Bridgestone brand. Again these drivers will stick to the same make of tyres. Consequently, the reason that we sell the Bridgestone Blizzak winter tyres because the customers who drive these cars will stick to the same make of tyre. My opinion is that it is good for business, and it would not be a good thing for us all to be the same, and all buy the same products.

bridgestone tyres
Bridgestone Blizzac tyre

There is no doubt that the large tyre manufacturers are getting more involved with their winter products.  Here in the UK market. On the continent, drivers have to fit winters by law.So the tyre companies sell as many as they can make.
It has to said though we have to battle for the crumbs of the left over tyres once they have supplied the rest of Europe, but we have been helped by imports from places like China and other Eastern tyre makers.

Snow Tyres? Yes We Do Need Them- Boston.com

Snow Tyres

Snow Tyres

A reader wonders if snow tires will help a Toyota Camry reach the top of a very steep hill.

Snow Tyres

Source: www.boston.com

In my opinion the answer to this is a resounding YES. Hence, this type of pick-up truck do not grip the road very well at the best of times. As a result, of owning  a Nissan Navarre and lost the thing on a few occasions. Even, in the summer time on a wet road.

I fitted a set of winter tyres (snow tyres)and the truck was a different animal in summer and winter.

http://www.pellonautocentre.com/blog/?p=9684

For this reason, snow tyres are not just for SUV vehicles?
Therefore, in my opinion snow tyres and winter tyres are the same thing. Because, in the past we always associated snow tyres as being very heavy treaded tyres. Thus,  looking more like today’s 4×4 tyres used for mud and slush. Especially, on farms and in fields.
The new breed of winter tyres are far from this and have to combine good grip in bad weather along with the ability to drive down motorways. In fact I believe that these tyres were first developed in Germany for the drivers who could speed down the motorway‘s and then have to climb up mountains to get to the ski resorts in ice and snow, usually in their BMW or Mercedes.
The old fashioned snow tyre would be too noisy for this, because of the lumpy heavy tread pattern.

The car would also have been difficult to control with these heavy tyres fitted. Anybody with an old fashioned 4×4 vehicle that is equipped with heavy duty M&S tyres will tell you how bad the vehicle is to handle and the noise that these type of tyres make, certainly no good for the modern car, that needs to be driven at speed and still retain the safety aspects that a modern winter tyre will give them.
The ideal time to fit your car with winter tyres is from October to Easter time, although the year before last gave us an exceptionally cold spell with heavy snow falls at the end of March. In general though, this is the best time period to fit your winter tyres (snow tyres), when the temperature begins to drop, below 7 degrees.

Snow Tyres

snow tyres
Firestone winter tyres are now regarded as the old fashioned type snow tyres used in the late 1960’s

Although I am writing this article in early November there are signs that we may be running out of certain sized snow tyres, this is because winter tyre production is based on last year’s sales figures and once a certain sized tyre has sold out then that is it until next year.

Most tyres for winter use are pre-ordered by the countries that have to fit winter tyres by their countries law and that leaves the rest for the remainder of Europe to scrap over , including us here in the UK.
Bridgestone Tyres have set out a list of 16 good reasons to fit winter tyres and I thought it would make good reading for our customers and readers…

Snow Tyres

“1. Winter tyres perform better in winter conditions like frost, snow or ice-covered roads
2. Winter tyres have shorter braking distances, better grip and improved steering performance on snow and ice-covered roads.
3. Winter tyres offer greater safety when travelling in winter conditions.
4. Summer tyres are simply not suitable for driving on snow or ice
5. In certain countries, driving on appropriate tyres in winter conditions is required by law and can be sanctioned if not followed.

6. These fines can be much higher if you disrupt traffic because your car has the wrong tyres.
7. Winter tyres are made using a special compound and tread pattern to make them more suited to cold weather.
8. Not even the most advanced car technology can compensate for tyres which are not suitable for the road conditions.
9. Modern winter tyres are just as comfortable and can be as quiet as summer tyres.
10. Winter tyres provide significantly higher levels of safety even in highly changeable autumn weather.

———————————————————————————11.At low temperatures even when there is no snow, summer tyres become less efficient
12. Even 4×4 vehicles need winter tyres in snowy and icy conditions.
13. All-year tyres typically do not perform as well in winter conditions as winter tyres but are still more effective than summer tyres.
14. Statistically in central Europe, if you add up all of the days where it was wet, icy, and frosty or snowing you have 185 days of winter weather each year.
15. Modern winter tyres cost more or less the same as summer tyres.
16. Fitting winter tyres saves you money because you aren’t using your summer tyres and are extending their lifespan”.

Winter Brings Colder Dark Nights- that means that it is Winter Tyres time again

Winter Brings Colder Dark Nights

This is the time of that I dislike driving at. I love driving my car and have driven all over Europe. But when the nights start to get darker and the weather turns colder. Thus,  I am a little more uneasy when I am driving.
I am lucky in one respect that I own a garage. Therefore, my staff always keep my car in good shape. Before the really bad weather arrives. I always give the car a winter service. Consequently, making sure that the antifreeze levels are well up for the engine. Hence and also my washer bottles contain a de-icer liquid. So that I do not get caught out with the first bad frost of the year.

Winter Brings Colder Dark Nights

I always get some winter tyres fitted

Winter Brings Colder Dark Nights
Scenes like this from two year ago can remind us just how bad it gets. This was in Sowerby north of Halifax UK

The problem that we have with British winters is that they are so unpredictable. The 2013-2014 winters were the mildest for 20 years, but the three years before that were very bad. We had many periods of snow fall in those bad winters and push was on to get our customers to buy winter tyres.

As it happened we did not have to try very hard. Many of our customers who needed tyres anyway decided to go for the winter tyres. This made a great deal of sense because the cost of winter tyres has come down in recent years and they have become an affordable safety feature for their cars.
We all live in a very fast world these days and drivers are more aware of the need for winter tyres, because they now have to get to work and take their kids to school, in fact we found in recent winters that one of our main customers were the mums in their crossover cars and people carriers. The mums normally control the household budget and they made buying winter tyres one of their safety priorities for their families.

Winter Brings Colder Dark Nights-When the snow came the winter tyres were flying on

Once we had our first snow fall of the winter, then the word gets around of how good the winter tyres were, especially if you live in a hilly district, similar to Halifax here in Yorkshire UK. We have even had thank you letters from satisfied customers and all sorts of stories telling of tales about how they got out of difficulties in the snow, because they had winter tyres fitted. One guy run his sister home from Halifax to Leeds in a blizzard, when

Winter Brings Colder Dark Nights
Toyota MR2 in for the winter tyres fitting

hundreds of cars were stuck at the road side, because of the snow and he rang me up and thanked me personally for my advice to him about having winter tyres fitted to his car.
Not to exaggerate but we had three and four people from the same family buying winter tyres for their cars and SUV’s. We at Pellon Tyres operate a “tyre hotel” system where we store our customers tyres and change them from summer to winter tyres and back again in the spring, but the demand has been so great that we are almost full to busting and even now in October when I am writing this article, we have been fitting our customers winter tyres, so great was the demand.

Winter Brings Colder Dark Nights

Winter Brings Colder Dark Nights
One of the things that you should be aware of when buying winter tyres is to watch out for the car behind. I know that the matter is out of your hands, but if it is snowing and sticking to the road surface, then you will be able to stop with your winters on but the car behind with his summer tyres on might not be able to stop. There is nothing you can do but just be aware, if you see him coming towards you then you might just have time to take evasive action and get out of the way.
Winter tyre time is normally November time but if you need new tyres now, then you would be wise to have winters fitted. You can fit them to the drive wheels only but the safest way is to have them fitted to all four wheels. We can offer cheap winter tyres or the more upmarket brand of tyres, whichever suits your pocket, so as I have said they are well the extra few pounds and you and your family will be much safer if you ever get caught out in bad weather this winter.
