Apollo Tyres and Manchester United to expand Brand Awareness

As the Apollo tyre retailer in Halifax Yorkshire UK, I am always interested in any news that is related to the Indian tyre manufacturers. This article is no exception?

Apollo tyre has seven manufacturing plants in India making them the largest tyre makers in India. They also now make tyres in Holland at the Vredestein Tyre plant. Vredestein were bought by Apollo and he brand is now known as Apollo-Vredestein. They are also setting up a new manufacturing facility up in Hungary.

Apollo tyres and Manchester united are to expand their joint brand awareness venture to as many as a hundred different countries, including the whole of Africa, Malaysia, Vietnam, Philippines, Singapore, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Brunei. The Indian tyre company, will be promoting their Apollo Tyres and Manchester United in the whole of India the UK and Thailand and now want to add a further 67 countries to the list. This will include other European countries and some African countries.

Marco Paracciani, Chief Marketing Officer, Apollo Tyres Ltd, said, “The last two years of our association with Manchester United Football Club has helped increase the awareness for the ‘Apollo’ brand across select markets. This expansion will help us in our brand building journey in the African and South East Asia regions and support our growth initiatives in various countries in the regions.”

I must admit that I was invited to a Apollo Tyres and Manchester United day out at the Old Trafford ground, which included a visit to the famous Manchester United museum and a pitch tour. The whole day out culminated with dinner at the Manchester United restaurant and a speech by one of their ex-players (whose name escapes me?)

One thing is for sure that the Apollo Tyres and Manchester United partnership will bring great publicity to both sides of the deal and help push Apollo to the top of the tyre manufacturer’s pecking order.

Apollo Tyres and Hankook

Apollo Tyres and Hankook- Offers Free Courtesy Cars During Tyre Fits: Hankook Tyres is providing Hyundai i10s to its dealers to … http://t.co/UQbv2ppO77

I must admit things are looking up in the tyre industry, regarding the tyre manufacturers looking to help the tyre retailers and tyre shops, to improve their image.

This idea from Apollo tyres and Hankook tyres, is certainly a good example. Most tyre centres also do other types of work including car repairs and car servicing. A courtesy car has become an essential part of today’s customer care. We here in Halifax have four courtesy cars at our customers disposal. This is a modern day necessity, due to more and more drivers having to travel further distances and work longer hours.

I think that the trend for corporate logo advertising in the tyre trade came from Vredestein tyres. When Apollo tyres bought them out, they carried on with the trend putting their company logo onto the courtesy cars of their tyre dealer network.

We here at Pellon Tyres were one of the first to take up the Apollo offer and although we are also Hankook tyre dealers, we have not yet taken up their offer.

These things do not come free of course. We have to achieve certain targets, but when do, then the car is payed for by the tyre companies.

The car looks great driving round the Halifax area and gives us another form of advertising, also giving us the upmarket image that we feel we deserve. in the past this type of thing would have to be budgeted for. But with the backing of  Apollo Tyres and Hankook, we can fit it in with our tyre sales and other promotions, without it breaking the bank.

In the past Yokohama tyres have been very generous with a great deal of help in giving our tyre depot a real professional look.

Apollo Tyres show the way

This video has opened my eyes to the modern way that tyres are now made? I have been a tyre guy all my life and it is something that gets into your blood. Once in tyre always in tyres. Even after a short break as a fire fighter, i returned to my beloved tyre industry and worked there right up to the present day.

All my life the tyre industry has been portrait as a dirty job and indeed it was. I have visited several tyre factories in my many years in the trade and believe me they were dirty smelly places full of

Apollo Tyres show the way
tyres are now made in a spotless automated environment.

chemicals and rubber of course.

The tyre industry also used to brag about the fact that every tyre was man made. Yes one guy would make one tyre. (known as the tyre builder). he would literally stand at his machine and build a tyre from all the relevant materials, eventually coming out with an inside out tyre”

The tyre would then be placed in a mold of the correct size, where it would be subjected to high temperatures and eventually would pop out as a new tyre of the correct size.

I advice you to take a look at this excellent Apollo Tyres show the way video, where Apollo tyres show the way to modern tyre production methods. This opened my eyes and i would truly love to visit a modern tyre making plant ,to witness this with my own eyes.

I always thought that when you had seen one tyre made then you had seen them all, but not after this Apollo Tyres show the way video?

Apollo tyres are one of  the up and coming tyre manufacturers in the world market as they improve their products by buying companies with much tyre manufacturing experience, such as their recent acquisition of Vredestein tyres, famous for their winter tyre range.

Since their acquisition of Vredestein tyre, the large Dutch tyre manufacturers. As expected, they are establishing a strong foothold here in the UK. As many of my customers already know, we are Apollo Tyres stockists for the Halifax area of Yorkshire, here in the UK.

I personally think the the tyres are of excellent quality and reliability.  Apollo also make a winter tyre. The winter tyre is also of good quality, although not as good as the Vredestein products. These series of information about “fitting the correct tyres” are part of the big picture about the drive from tyre manufacturers for better tyre safety.

This tweet ids a complete coincidence? Apollo tyres have just sponsored the annual  Point-S conference and the theme was “cowboys and Indians”.

They also had on display their Apollo tyres and Pellon tyres new Fiat 500 courtesy car.

It was a great weekend and enjoyed by us all. The Apollo Tyres and Point-S-Events meeting took up most of the afternoon followed by an evening set up as a wild west saloon with shooting ranges a “bucking bronco” and other events to entertain us.

The party atmosphere carried on until the early hours of Sunday morning. the group stayed over night and had breakfast before leaving for home. The Point-S group also had a fantastic BBQ  before heading for bed.

The Apollo Tyres and Point-S-Events took place in a former stately home called Ashhorne Hill a former  British Steel training centre that is now converted to host cooperate events.

The Apollo Tyres and Point-S-Events day started off with lunch followed by a meeting about the state of the tyre trade in general and new Point-S products that were coming onto the market. The events were also supported by Point-S delegates from Holland and France. The day ended with a “cowboy and Indians” theme followed by a great BBQ and a country and western band, playing into the early hours of Sunday.

After breakfast on the Sunday morning ,we all headed in our different directions and home.

Apollo Vredestein bring out New Quatrac all-season Tyre

Apollo Vredestein

apollo vredestein

Apollo Vredestein has introduced a Y speed fitment and also an SUV version to its Vredestein Quatrac 5 range.

Sourced through Scoop.it from: www.satreads.com

Vredestein always made an outstanding tyre product. Thus, even in the days before they were bought out by Apollo tyres.

This new Quatrac tyre. Therefore,  will be no exception to the rule. I have been fortunate enough to visit the factory in Holland. Where the Vredestein tyres are made. As a result, was very impressed by the cleanliness of the tyre making facilities. Cleanliness, helps to make a better tyre  product without any warranty problems.

Vredestein also made other high quality tyre products. Including, the vredestein ultrac sessanta. Hence, for the SUV and 4X4 tyres market. Consequently, has been proved to be very popular. Especially, amongst the drivers of this type of vehicle.

Vredestein quatrac 3 SUV tires were a very popular choice of all weather tyres and now have been replaced by the vredestein quatrac 5 tyre, a worthy predecessor.

Apollo vredestein have now become one tyre company with emerging products.

The Indian tyre makers made a very shrewd move when buying Vredestein. The Dutch tyre company are renowned for their  winter tyre range, with many award winners.

Apollo tyre India are growing into one of the worlds top ten of tyre manufacturers. From their base in India they have a presence in South Africa, Europe, UK and now i believe that they are ready to make a bid for the Chinese tyre company, BCT.

Apollo vredestein are now making great efforts to expand their tyres throughout the UK. In fact they now support the tyre dealer network Point-S. We also stock Apollo vredestein, here in Halifax Yorkshire UK.

Premium tyres- Budget tyres- A comparison about which tyres offer the best value?

Premium tyres- Budget tyres

Why are budget tyres cheaper than premium tyres?

This is one of the most asked questions that we get form the customers of any commercial tyre centre here in Halifax, Yorkshire, UK.
I have to admit that the answer is getting more complicated?
Recent years have brought many new tyre manufacturers coming onto the tyre market, bringing greater choice and diversity of products. I have put together e few reasons that in my opinion are the most important.
My first reason stems back to when tyres were introduced and the major tyre companies that were first involved in the tyres development. These great tyre companies, starting with Michelin and closely followed by Pirelli, Dunlop, Goodyear and Continental are the ones

premium tyres
Continental tyres are a well-known premium tyre

that are streets ahead in research and development.
Other tyre companies come a close second, but I prefer to stick to the main ones. These are the giants that I have been brought up with, over my past forty years as a tyre service centre.
When premium tyres are compared to budget tyre brands, you are talking the difference between men and boys. Premium tyres are made with over a century of research and development, many of it is carried out by their continues use of motorsport. This enables them to test new products and tyre compounds on the test track before the tyre are used on the regular cars driven by Joe public.

Premium tyres- Budget tyres

Major tyre manufacturers use testing equipment that has developed with their tyres and is not accessible to the countries that are mass produce their tyres. Compounds and ingredients are kept a secret. Budget tyre brands are from basic materials and are mass produced using technology that could be as much as 15 years old.
For the extra money that you pay for premium tyres, you will be getting a product that has been designed and will perform together with the cars of today. Companies such as BMW work together with tyre manufacturers to improve the all-round performance of their vehicles. A top class car will be fitted with premium tyres and not Cheap Car Tyre brands.

Premium tyres- Budget tyres

If the car makers could use budget tyres. Of course, then they would. They know that a premium tyres brand. Naturally, is the only option to match their new car model. Thus, when it is to be launched in the marketplace.
In my opinion, if you have relatively new car. Then you should keep to the make and type of tyre. Hence, that was on your vehicle as original equipment.

Fitting a budget tyre would be no option in my opinion.
The premium tyres and the mid-range tyrespremium tyres
This has been the major development in the last ten years of my tyre retailing life. The development, of the mid-range tyre. These include brands such as Kumho tyres, Hankook, Apollo and General tyres.
These tyre companies. Therefore,  have stormed ahead .Having emulated the way that the premium tyre companies. Have been so successful over the years.

In my opinion. This is through motorsport. Also, and probably TV and sports ground advertising. Most of these mid-range tyre companies.  Have pushed their products to enhance their competitiveness against the big boys.
And to be truthful, they are succeeding?
The mid-range tyres are bridging the gap between the premium tyres and the budget tyres and are becoming a cheaper option for the driver with a car above say three years old.
At the end of the day, you will pay for what you get. There are thousands of economy tyre manufacturers, and the market is flooded with them. These tyres are great for the driver who does not do much mileage or drives an older car, with a small budget.
So you pay your money and make your choice, but in the tyre world, you do get what you pay for.

Apollo tyres India-first started life in 1972-Now in Yorkshire 2015

As far as tyre companies go, then Apollo Tyres India are a relatively young company.

They started out in 1972, in fact, to be precise in September 1972. Apollo Tyres India received the certificate of Commerce in October 1972. They were promoted by Bharat Steel Tubes along with others to manufacture car tyres and tubes, (which were more widely used then, than they are now). Like other tyre companies, they also made conveyor belting.

Which was used mainly in the mining industries?
In 1981 Apollo began an agreement with General Tire International Co., U.S.A, which helped them with technical assistance. This move contributed to improving their tyre products. This lasted up to 1987 when the General tyre company was bought by the giant German tyre company Continental tyres.

Apollo tyres India

About the same time, Apollo acquired a share of another Indian based tyre company by the name of Gujarat tyre Ltd. This move gave Apollo the license to produce its car tyres in another Indian state, Gujarat state. Most Indian states were governed separately, and new permissions had to be granted when companies expanded across state lines.
1989 saw the introduction of the radial tyres for cars and Apollo Tyres India won the contract to supply Maruti cars and also started to produce tyres for trucks.

apollo tyres india

In one of the Indian tyre company’s bravest moves to date, Apollo entered into an agreement with Continental AG, Tyres of Germany. In a joint venture. Apollo opened up a passenger car radial tyre manufacturing plant. The factory had an initial production capacity of 4.7 million car radial tyres each production year. The deal was a 50% each joint venture between Apollo and Continental.
Michelin bought a 14.50% share in Apollo. They indeed set up a joint venture to produce truck tyres and also bus tyres for sale in the Indian market. The venture was a 51/49% split. All these moves were giving Apollo tyres more respectability in the tyre world.

Apollo Tyres India acquires Dunlop Tyres South Africa

In 2006 The Indian Tyre Company bought the South African arm of the split up Dunlop Tyre Company.

The consequences of this were that they sold off. Most of the company including the trademark rights to the Japanese tyre giants Sumitomo rubber industries in 2013.
Perhaps their most expansive move to date was the purchase of 100% shareholding control of Vredestein Banden B.V., Netherlands. This came as a shock to me because this was a tyre company that I was very familiar with and had visited on many occasions.

Apollo tyres India

The Vredestein product was no more than excellent.  I hoped and prayed that this was not just an assist stripping move.

At Enschede lies in the eastern part of Overijssel with over 100,000 inhabitants. A beautiful town that I have visited on many occasions.
In fact, over six million summer, winter and all-season tyres are now made in Enschede, Holland every year. Also, a large number of quality agriculture tyres are manufactured there in addition to the production facilities in India. The two companies have become a

Apollo tyres india

great marriage and are working well together.
Apart from the failed takeover of Cooper tyres in the USA, that’s about it for

Apollo Tyres India

for the moment. I must say though the Apollo is setting up an excellent network of tyre retailers across Europe, including here in the UK.

In my opinion Apollo tyres are the tyre company to watch out for.

They are very innovative and are reaching forward to expand to the rest of the world with their tyre products.

They are setting up a tyre dealer network here in the UK, and my tyre company will fortunately be a part of that, due to there involvement with Point-S. the European tyre buying group.

Apollo tyres now here in the UK

As the article says Apollo tyres are making big plans to expand into the European tyre market. The Indian based company have already bought out the Dutch tyre makers Vredestein tyres, who have strong customer base in the UK. Vredestein are the makers of one of the world’s best winter tyres and Apollo tyres will strengthen the brand name by adding their own selection of tyre types and sizes.
Apollo tyres are a good quality brand and will worry some of the establishment during their climb up the tyre hierarchy ladder. The company are aggressive marketers and have already established links with Manchester United, where the Apollo tyres brand will be advertised on match days on the excellent pitch side electric advertising screens that are now very popular around English premiership football grounds.

Apollo Tyres Greenfield facility

Apollo tyres have also established a deal to supply a tyre buying group in the UK, known as Point-S. This is where I come in because Pellon Tyres here in Halifax Yorkshire UK, are members of Point-S and we now carry a large stock of Apollo Tyres, to supply the motorists of Halifax.

A Day At Apollo Tyres Manufacturing Facility In Chennai – Plant Visit Report

An absorbing article about one of the world’s up and coming tyre manufacturers. The Indian tyre giant Apollo Tyres are now expanding across the world via various buyouts.

www.pellontyres.co.uk

When I first read this article. I was reminded of my past visits to tyre factories here in the UK. I now know that the tyre making facilities are very modern and hygienic. As expected, far from the days in the 70’s and 80’s.
The very first tyre plant that I visited was at Fort Dunlop. On the outskirts of Birmingham in the West Midlands UK. Fort Dunlop was a massive tyre making facility. For this reason, was one of the area’s largest employers. You could see the huge factory from the M6 motorway, with its massive “Dunlop” sign on the top of the building; it was a landmark that you would never forget, once you saw it.

You could see the huge factory from the M6 motorway. Thus, with its massive “Dunlop” sign on the top of the building; it was a landmark that you would never forget, once you saw it.
I was a young man at the time.  I can remember seen the motorsport division as we approached the main factory. It was a very exciting time for me. As it was to be the first time.

Apollo Tyres

I knew that this would increase my knowledge.Naturally, about the product and that it would give me a better understanding.Especially, of the tyres that would give me a decent standard of living for the rest of my life.
Strangely enough the thing that stuck in my mind. Was at the end of the production process. With all the tyres hung onto a conveyor belt ready for checking by an inspector. I also remember that mixed brands were coming off the final inspection line. Apart from Dunlop tyres, I saw India tyres being made. I knew that Dunlop made India tyres, but now I had seen it myself, it gave me greater confidence when I returned to my depot in Huddersfield Yorkshire UK.

Apollo tyres would buy out Vredestein tyres from Holland

Later on in my career. When I owned my tyre centre. I had the pleasure to become a dealer for the excellent Vredestein tyres. Because Vredestein is a Dutch company. Naturally, have a reputation second to none for quality and value and build their tyre in a factory that I had the pleasure of visiting on three occasions in Enschede, Holland.
They became a vital supplier to me and helped build the business to what it is today. Vredestein was to be eventually bought out by Apollo tyres, but before that, I enjoyed many trips to their factory in Holland.
The Vredestein factory was to be the cleanest and efficient tyre company that I had ever seen. I was always given the best treatment, and this only cemented our business relationship and my enthusiasm for Vredestein tyres.

apollo tyres

Apollo Tyres

However like many smaller companies Vredestein tyres started to grow and sort of left the little guys a bit behind.

They became more aggressive with their marketing tactics and as a small tyre retailer in Halifax, we started to drift apart, and I could not get the right deal from them. The Vredestein sales manager whom I had known for some years, retired and I used this particular time to change my main supplier of mid-range tyres to Toyo Tyres of Japan.
Vredestein make one of the best Winter tyres in Europe and can sell all that they make. They were to become a prime target for Apollo tyres. Vredestein had used proclaimed star car designer, Giorgetto Giugiao, to design their tyres in the late 90’s and the brand of Vredestein had become much sought after in the tyre world.
Thus, Vredestein were now making up to six million winter and summer car tyres and were to become a prime target for the Indian tyre company Apollo tyres, and the acquisition took place in 1999.
The company is now known as Apollo Vredestein tyres and some of the production of things, like cycle tyres and tubes, have to an Apollo tyres factory in East Asia.

Also Vredestein are renowned for their Tractor tyres and some of these will now be made in the Apollo tyres factory in India.
Finally, I am very pleased that I once again have access to the Vredestein products. This is because I am a m ember of tyre buying group Point-S and Apollo tyres are one of our suppliers.
