Subsequently, this is a video about your car’s safety. Especially in wet weather conditions. Therefore with winter approaching, it is well worth considering which tyres to fit.

Many motorists, prefer to keep their summer tyres on the car in winter. Hence, it could be something to do with their particular finances. Whatever the reason, it is a wise move to check out your tyres before the inclement weather arrives.

Some of our customers are on a low budget. Therefore they will buy a budget brand of tyre. Here at pellon Tyres we recommend the use of Jinyu tyres. Jinyu are of excellent quality and can be bought at a reasonable price.

Other customers, prefer to fit the same tyres as the car came on. For example, if Michelin tyres were fitted, then they would replace the worn out tyres with Michelins again.

Other customers, will ask for our opinion as to which tyres to fit.Accordingly, I happen to like Continental tyres. Of course, we actually stock these tyres in the popular sizes. One of the reason is that we trust the Continental products, after many years of my experience in the tyre business.

Continentals Dandelion tyres? A major breakthrough for a greener planet

Continentals Dandelion tyres

Russian varieties of dandelions will be grown in vast quantities.

Continentals dandelion tyres

There is no doubt that in the past forty years, since I have been a tyre retailer, the discovery about the humble dandelion, helping to make tyres, has to be up there in the top ten of tyre related discoveries.
What many car owners do not know is the huge amount of raw materials that go into making the humble tyre. Indeed car tyres use a large amount crude oil in the tyres manufacture.

The oil is used mainly for making carbon black, resins and anti-aging chemicals. Also synthetic rubber, which all require crude oil in the manufacturing process.
Tyres also consume large amounts of natural rubber. In fact the average car tyre uses between 10 and 30% of natural rubber in its make-up. The larger truck tyres obviously use much more. Rubber plantations grow in the sub-tropical regions of the world. They grow in such countries as  Brazil and Malaysia.

It is elastic and durable as well as been resistant to abrasion. It is an ideal material for the rubber production that goes in the manufacture of tyres.
Enter the good old dandelion
Due to the fact that we are slowly running out of sustainable materials.Researchers have been looking for alternatives. Continental has been working with the Fraunhofer Institute in Germany, to find alternatives to the dwindling rubber plantations.

Dandelion tyre now on test

Continental scientists, were looking for something that had a similar molecular structure to the latex that is produced by the rubber trees. It was noticed that the dandelion plant gave off a similar white milky liquid, when the stem or a leaf was broken. The gardeners amongst us will know this only too well.

Continentals Dandelion tyres

The dandelion also has a very similar crop yield to the rubber trees, producing 1 to 2 tons per hectare.

This type of innovation by the Continental tyre company is going a long way to reducing our dependency on fossil fuels and in my opinion is a great step forward.

Continental Tyres-Ten Reasons Why they are So Popular here in the UK.

Continental tyres were first made in Hanover, Germany

Continental made soft rubber products and solid tyres for the first bicycles and horse drawn carriages. In 1892 the company then started to make the first Pneumatic tyres in Germany.continental tyres

  • Moving on to 1901 Continental tyres made the first tyre to have a tread pattern. This was for added grip, and it was already clear that the German tyre company were becoming very innovative.
  •  In 1905 not long after the addition of a tread pattern. Continental invented the anti-skid tyre, which was a forerunner the studded snow tyres that we are familiar with today.
  • Continental tyres celebrated their 50th anniversary. They were to be the first German tyre company to add textiles to the tyre product with the addition of cord casing onto the market. Linen was the material that was used before this new method. This discovery was now to be replaced with a more workable cord fibre fabric. At the same time, they started to make large pneumatic tyres fit trucks.
  •  In 1926 carbon black was to be introduced into the tyres compound. This would give the tyres more strength and make them last longer. Once again Continental were leaders in innovation and strove to make a better product.
  •  Continental tyres

  • Had already been involved in early motorsport events. In the mid-1930’s racing tyres were fitted to Auto-Union and Mercedes racing cars with four straight wins in the German Grand Prix. They also were beating numerous speed records. Their tyres were proving to be of exceptional quality even in the early years.
  • The war years saw very little movement from Continental but productions. But in 1945 production resumed after permission from the British government. In 1955 Continental started producing the “tubeless tyres” that would be fitted to most cars.
  • Bringing things more up to date. 1979 would see Continental buying American tyre company Uniroyal. Thus, gave Continental a much larger base in Europe. This would be the start of the German tyre maker. Therefore Becoming so common here in the UK.
  • The Eighties would see more acquisitions, with the purchase of General tyres in America and a cheap tyre brand from Portugal called Mabor tyres. Both Mabor and General were well-known brands here in the UK.
  •  Continental tyres then bought a large share of Czech tyre company Barum, another famous budget tyre brand, along with 50 tyre dealer outlets. At this stage, they were well known all across Europe and not only here in the UK. They had amassed more than 2000 tyre retailers across 18 European countries and were now becoming contenders for the largest tyre company in the World, a feat that they later achieved.

Continental tyres are no doubt the world’s biggest tyre innovators in the world. They have put billions of Euros into tyre research and development.

Tyre awards keep coming for Continental Tyres

Continental really are a top tyre company, with many quality achievements and top tyre test results, winning some of the top tyre awards.

Continental tyres are second to none as far as research and development goes. They are always contributing to environmental issues and trying out new ideas and using different products to use in place of the dirty oil based materials. These are the bad materials that cause greenhouse gases.

Continental also support women’s football. Continental tyres are supporting their third season of sponsorship of The FA WSL and would you believe it they have committed themselves to a further  four years of support from 2014-2018 to partner the women’s game. This also includes support to the  England Women’s Team, The FA Women’s Cup,  and the newly extended  FA WSL and The FA WSL Continental Cup.  In addition, Continental will continue to support The FA Girls Football Festivals; a national programme to increase participation at grassroots level.

This brings me onto the next football story on a more local level. Continental have contributed and large number of training vests and warm up kits. As well as training aids to one of our local ladies open age football teams. The under tens girls team of the Tingley Athletic football club here in Yorkshire UK.

Continental Tyres and Pellon Tyre & AutoCentre Ltd support Grass roots football
The Tingley U10s Girls received a Continental Warm up Kit to boost their training supplies this week after a kind donation by Continental. Debbie Bastow, who manages the Open Age Ladies team at Tingley. She also works at Pellon Tyre & AutoCentre Ltd, Halifax. It was agreed after a meeting recently with the Continental rep. He said that he would be happy to continue their ongoing support with grassroots football by giving a warm up kit. The kit consists of bibs, balls, cones, bag and pop up goal.
Nicola Smith who manages the U10s has been doing a great job this season. The team is growing in confidence and skills. They are currently looking for new players to join next season and will be training throughout the summer, they play in the West Riding Junior Girls Football League. They generally have matches every weekend. It is a good thing when giant companies like Continental tyres can take time out to help the female game at a local level.

Continental Tyres develop low rolling resistance tyres

Consequently, the giant German tyre company, have developed this new tyre. Hence, with the aid of fellow German company VW . So and will fall in line with most other leading tyre companies . Who are now making similar models of tyres.

www.wintertyres-yorkshire.co.uk

Continental tyres are joining the tyre revolution,

Continental tyres have achieved this by developing more environmentally friendly tyre products. This can be done by improving the rolling resistance of the tyres. This means the tyres will offer less friction resistance.Naturally, between the road and the tyres; this allows the tyre to go further in one turn. Thus, using less fuel and therefore making the car more fuel efficient.
This is only one small part of the overall picture. Thus, from the car manufacturer’s point of view. Which have to reach severe reductions in their overall emissions reductions. Of course, that are set by various groups of countries and individual governments.

Continental tyres use Green Chilli oils in their compounds

The tyres will be known as the Conti E Contact.Of course,  are now available for the SUV market. Continental tyres also use a vegetable oil made from a “Green Chilli” compound. Which is the latest achievement in reduced rolling resistance and performance. Naturally, for excellent tyre handling and safety and better braking.
Yokohama adds Orange peel oil.
Different tyre makers achieve this goal in a variety of ways. Yokohama tyres from Japan have developed the use of the various oils.Specifically orange peel oil in the mix of their compounds to reduce the number of petrochemicals that are used. This also reduces the tyres reliance on carbon-based chemicals and makes the product greener and more

environmentally friendly.
This new tyre is aimed at the very modern compact car market.  The AE-01 is constructed from a jaw breaking 80% of renewable materials. Including the orange peel oil and a nano-blend of oils, a great achievement.

Continental tyres are still in the “Dandelion Latex” development story

Continental tyres along with the giant Bridgestone tyre company. Are still hedging their bets. On the future use of the dandelion plant to produce latex. With a similar molecular structure to rubber latex. But we are still a few years away from this being used and tested on tyres that are to be utilised by the public. The tyre companies are investing millions of dollars in research and development, as they see the dandelion as a great benefit in the future.

Continental Sport Contact 6 – Track Tested to show off its handling and performance

Continental Sport Contact 6

Continental Sport Contact 6-WE head out to the Blister Berg Circuit to test out the Continental Tire’s new ultra high-performance tyre, the SportContact 6.

Continental Sport Contact 6

Continental Sport Contact 6

Designed for sports and high-performance vehicles. Black Chili for maximum grip in all directions enables supreme driving experience.

To enhance the power and performance of the new Continental Sport Contact 6, the guys in the laboratory at Continental have made further developments with the “Black Chili” tread compound. In the new Continental Sport Contact 6, there are two main things, which ensure maximum road holding when the tyre is pushed to its limits.

The Continental Sport Contact 6 tyres rubber compound is so designed as to bind with the surface of the road. At the same time, the tyres footprint generates chemical reactions, between the tyre compound bonds with the road surface, which ensures high adhesion, acting like small suction pads due to the behaviour of individual atoms at nanoscopic level.

All this technology gives the Sport Contact 6 fantastic grip on the road-surface. This give grip during cornering, braking and also fast acceleration, both on dry and wet roads. The tyres top speed has been established at 220 MPH, meaning that the new tyre has to cope with massive structural pressures and forces, due to forces such as centrifugal force.

This of course is established by strong construction materials and manufacturing. These materials are created with new materials such as “Aralon 350”, which is specially developed for the Continental Sport Contact 6.

Using the “Aralon 350” material which as I say was especially for the  Sport Contact 6, Continental utilises a synthetic fibre developed by two yarns made from strong aramid and closely interwoven with a yarn of flexible nylon. The yarn is then impregnated with rubber into belt strips. This fibre is placed under the tread as a joint-less cap ply. This structure is extremely strong and acts like an additional steel belt and offers controlled, behaviour even at maximum speeds.

Continental winter tyres one of the best

As winter approaches, then winter tyre advice starts to come along thick and fast?

And so it should?

The past few years have seen a great increase in the number of safety conscious drivers fitting winter tyres onto their vehicles. The most popular time is the November period.

October is the time when tyre writers start to put together their articles about the safety aspects of winter tyres and other related

products.

This particular video is  indeed produced by Continental tyres. Continental winter tyres are one of the best on the market and often come top in the international motoring magazine tyre tests.

I am fortunate that we are the Continental winter tyres dealer in the Halifax area of Yorkshire here in the UK.

One of the good things about Continental winter tyres, is the fact that they have a vast range of winter tyre products, including winter tyres to fit the huge range of tyres that are fitted to SUV vehicles. These  Continental winter tyres are becoming more and more popular as the drivers of this type of car realise that they do need winter tyres to drive more safely in the winter weather.

Another good point about Continental Winter Tyres is the amount of testing that they carry out. The tyres are tested extensively in all the

Continental winter tyres
New Continental winter TS850

types of winter conditions that are possible. When they are satisfied about the quality of the product then they submit them for testing against their competitors tyres.

This can be seen with the new ContiWinter Contact TS 850 tyre. This tyre came out tops in recent winter tyre tests in Germany.
