Correct Tyre Pressures

When we fit new tyres to our cars, then everything should be “hunky dory” . The correct tyre pressures and the wheel alignment will determine the way that your new tyres will wear and the amount of money that you will throw away?

What do i mean?

well you should keep an eye open to see if your tyres are wearing evenly or not. By evenly ,i mean wearing straight across the tread equally. The general problem is with your tyres wearing off at one edge. Either the inner edge or the outer edge. This as most drivers seam to know is usually a wheel alignment problem and can be

separated with the other money waster, correct tyre pressures.

Correct tyre pressures are usually spotted when it is a little too late and premature tyre wear occurs. We should be checking and adjusting our tyre pressures at least once a week in my opinion, but this is often not the case, and the pressures are neglected.

What are the signs with correct tyre pressures.

Under inflation will wear your tyres away at the edges and your car may not handle very well.

Over inflation, will wear your tyres away in the centre and your car will once again fail to handle very well, usually a hard ride and over steering may occur.

These problems can be corrected by inflating your tyres at regular intervals. If your are not sure about what to do, then it is still important to have the correct tyre pressures and you should visit your local independent tyre dealer. They would be pleased to check that your car has the correct tyre pressures and is safe for the road.

We at Pellon Tyres in Halifax literally drop everything when a customer wants their tyre pressures correcting.

We feel that it is such an important thing to do that  we attend to any customer that wants their pressures checking immediately.

Since writing this article then TPMS systems are now taking over. Hence, the task of warning the driver about falling tyre pressures.

Van tyres  do a tremendous amount of hard work during their life- time. Van drivers only notice them when they are down to the steel cords. Van tyres are just as important as car tyres. Because of the weight and the fact that these vans are out in all weathers, then they may even be more important as a safety aspect, than car tyres.

Checking Your Tyre Pressures

Checking Your Tyre Pressures;90% of vehicles that visit our centres have the incorrect tyre pressure. Here’s our guide for how to check https://t.co/A3iPzBrR2B

What if i dont know my tyre pressures?
This is one of the questions that is asked by some of my customers here at Pellon Tyres in Halifax Yorkshire UK. Apart from the internet, vehicle car manufacturers often place the tyre pressures in three locations of the car.
Here are the three places:
⦁ Inside the drivers door on the door frame
⦁ Inside the petrol-diesel cap
⦁ In the vehicle manual
If you are in the Halifax area then we will always supply the tyre pressures for your particular car model.
We recommend though that you keep your own tyre pressure gauge as part of your cars tool kit. They are only small items and can even be kept with your locking wheel nuts under the dash. Gauges are on offer at most car accessory stores and also from Michelin and the road safety organisations, here in the UK we have the AA and the RAC.
I can also give you drivers a few simple tips that you should remember about tyre pressures and inflating your tyres.
a. Always keep your valve caps in a safe place when inflating and checking your tyre pressures. if the caps are cracked or broken, then replace them with new ones.
b. Try not to damage the thread on your tyre valves. Some valves are Tyre Pressure Motoring Systems and if damaged are expensive to Checking Your Tyre Pressuresreplace. So do not force the tyre pressure gauge or the air-line onto the tyres valve and damage the thread.
c. Always check the tyre pressures when the tyres are cool preferably before you start a journey. Heat builds up in the tyres and they will give the wrong tyre pressure reading.
d. Check each tyre more than once to ensure that you have a good fit between the tyres valve and the pressure gauge.
Any good tyre centre will do this job for you free of charge, including us at Pellon Tyres here in Yorkshire UK. This should also be done FREE of charge.

Tyre Pressures and Track Days – A Quick Guide

Tyre Pressures

Tyre Pressures

Tyre Pressures

Just a short article from Linkedin worth a look at.

Pressures are very important. Hence, the constant bombardment of information . Therefore coming out of the tyre trade and I am no exception. We see the effects of tyre pressures every day here in  my tyre business in Halifax Yorkshire, UK.

As we remove the tyres from customers cars, we can see the causes of incorrect  pressures. For this reason, the tyres wear out in different ways. The above illustration shows exactly the reasons that I am talking about.

The balance between over inflated tyres and under-inflated tyres is about the same. As expected, about 50/50. For this reason, we reckon that our customers are throwing good money away. Thus, by the fact of premature tyre wear. Hence, due to not checking their tyre pressures at regular intervals.

Of course, tyre pressures can have effects on driving experiences? What do I mean? Well, many of us will have driven an overloaded car, without knowing it. I have even seen this on motorways. Because the car or even a van is overloaded and the tyre pressures have not been increased . Therefore, the vehicle becomes unstable. The worst scenario can be that the vehicle will start to swerve or snake. Thus, before the driver brings it under control gain.

Tyre Pressures on vans

This is particularly common on caravans. As a result, the caravan can even turn over.Resulting in a nasty accident, i am sure that we have all witnessed this. Especially in the summer holiday period. Most of the time this is because the tyre pressures have not being checked prior to the journey.

Vav drivers should also be aware of the problem. Of course, you would think that most van drivers are professional people. But we can see by the wear on their tyres. Especially if they have not been checked for pressure.

Tyre pressures-If You Don’t check them it Will cost you money in wasted fuel?

Tyre pressures are very important?

The big thing that the motorists do not know, is that low pressures equal more fuel consumption?

Thats right

drivers who do not keep up with their tyre pressures are throwing money down the drain.

WHY tyre pressures are important

because an under inflated tyre has less rolling resistance and will affect your cars performance and reduce your fuel consumption.

We all know that if you have a front tyre that has say a slow puncture, then the car will pull in the direction of the tyre with less air. Wee imagine the effect if ALL your tyres had less air in them.

The cars engine will be working harder to drive your car along and consequently use more fuel.

So it makes sense to get your tyre pressures checked at regular intervals. Your local tyre dealer will do this free of charge. Here in Halifax Yorkshire UK, we have a regular string of customers, who call in at regular intervals to have their tyres checked and inflated. It only takes five minutes and you then know that you are safer and not throwing money away.
