All Winter Tyres Stuff

To my surprise, Winter tyres were still very popular in the field of retailing tyres. Of course this type of tyres were more expensive, but would wear better. So, and their casing quality was second to none. The casing is the tyre that has used all of the tread and then can be used for remoulding. The remoulding option would give the original purchase a second and third life. This is the reason that these tyres are very cost effective in the long run.

2016 Winter Tyres – Snow may be on its way in the UK

2016 Winter Tyres

2016 Winter Tyres

2016 Winter Tyres are developed to provide better grip and stopping distances than normal tyres at lower temperatures, find out more here…

After probably the mildest and wettest period it British weather since records were kept , it looks like it will be getting colder with some snow on the Horizon?

Winter tyres are also great in the wet conditions and can give the driver complete confidence when driving on wet and flooded roads. The winter tyres will get rid of all the water that the heavens can throw at us?

I always have winter tyres fitted to our vehicles and last week was a point in case. My daughter has recently moved into  a house in 2016 Winter TyresMytholmroyd, and i think you know what must be coming next?

She received a phone call to say that her home was flooded and she was desperate to get there. She spent Christmas at our house, but needed to inspect her house on Boxing day.

2016 Winter Tyres

We set off in the torrential rain. Only to find that all roads to Mytholmroyd and beyond were blocked by floods. We have collected many customers cars in the hills surrounding the Calder valley. Thus, I had pretty good knowledge. About how to get around the small single track roads. That would lead me down the Cragg Vale road to my daughters house.

What I did not count on was the torrents of water.Hence, that were teaming down these small steep valley roads. However, thanks to my trusty winter tyres. We ploughed on through the water and eventually made it to my daughters house.

I am writing this on the morning of the 1st of Jan 2016.Up to now this is only our second frost of the winter.

I believe the same has occurred in the USA . New York has had temperatures in the 20 deg C range, during December and i think that this is also some kind of a record,

Some friends of ours have recently gone skiing in Boston?

Well there was NO snow. Except for some artificial stuff. I am sure though that winter will return with vengeance, and all those who have bought winter tyres will not feel so bad when they are ploughing through snow with the greatest of confidence, in a car fitted with their winter tyres.

car chicks is a female friendly website that has been developed to be more informative to female drivers, therefor i have called my article car chicks tyres? although the title is about winter tyres, then i think this article includes the whole female garage scene.

Although this is a growing trend, (female web sites) I am not sure why their is a recent emphasis on tips for female drivers. In my opinion ALL drivers should be educated and advised when it comes to tyre care and anything else to do with car servicing and repairs.

It is good though that we do have many female drivers now. These

drivers are very confident, when visiting my garage. We do though have a female manager and this definitely gives our female customers more confidence when they have car problems or just need some new tyres.

Car Chicks Tyres

In the UK though the phrase “car chicks tyres”, would not be used. We do now though have various female friendly web sites that offer motoring advice to their members. The one i am thinking about is “Sheilas wheels” .This web site gives excellent advice to female drivers. I am sure that this gives the ladies more confidence when dealing with men in the garage atmosphere?

In my garage in Halifax UK we have larger ratio of female customers than to male customers, but you know? they are all treat with the same politeness and the same good experience as each other.

We try to make a stressful situation as comforting as possible for both the sexes.

I suppose if you must target one sex then so be it, but i dont agree with it.

SUV Winter Tyres or Four Wheel Drive-which are the best options for your SUV ?

SUV Winter Tyres

SUV Winter Tyres

SUV winter tyres make a huge difference

Hi this is one of those great videos that can explain many things at a glance. One of the great things about owning a tyre shop these days is the diversity of the car models and tyre types and sizes.

One of the surprises to me was the popularity of the SUV vehicles in the past five or six years?

suv winter tyres
This Land Rover Discovery has his SUV winter tyres fitted every year.

In fact my wife drives about in a Mitsubishi Outlander and loves to be driving above the normal car height (feeling of power perhaps?).

Many of these SUV’s are now driven by our lady customers, but for some reason they think they are drive anywhere vehicles.

the truth is that the SUV’s come out on summer tyres only ,in most cases. The drivers think that they can drive them in all kinds of weather conditions, even on snow.

Even the 4X4 drive vehicles are mainly on summer tyres?

Because the tyres are also of a large size and width it is even more important to fit SUV winter tyres.

This video shows exactly what i mean. Even the four wheel drive car was hopeless in snow when fitted with summer tyres. The cars where completely different when fitted with SUV winter tyres. The SUV winter tyres made a complete difference to the handling of the cars when tested on a snow covered ski slope.

SUV Winter Tyres have been proven to work very well in winter weather before i saw this excellent video. One of the vehicles that benefit very well by fitting  General SUV Winter Tyres, is the BMW range of SUV’s. These cars have massive tyres, which work great in summer, but their owners will tell you that they are hopeless in any kind of bad weather, especially snow and ice.

Do I need winter tyres ? Everything you need to know about winter tyres in 2020 – get reading

Do I need winter tyres

Do i need winter tyres

Do I need winter tyres ? Everything you need to know about cold weather tyres.

A great question. Hence, that I have tried to answer a million times. We all live very busy lives. Therefore, we do not like to be hampered or hindered in our daily dash. Thus, from home to work or home to school.

The roads in the UK are packed to the brim with our cars. Every family now owns two or three cars. We just cannot do without them?

On the other side of the coin. We all want safer cars and safer roads. Our families are very precious to us.

This in my opinion is where I answer the question “do I need cold weather tyres”. The answer is a big fat YES we do need  tyres to aid us in bad winter weather.

The past five or six winters here in the UK. Of course, have shown us all just how bad winter can be. As I am sat here writing this. The weather forecast is for snow to fall. In parts of the UK and this is usually in the Halifax area of Yorkshire, where my tyre business is.

Do I need these tyres

A good point to remember is that  a winter performs much better when the temperature drops to bellow 7 degrees C. The tyre stays more flexible, because of certain additives in the tyres compound and enables the tyre to grip much better in cold winter weather, This makes winter tyres much safer to drive on in the winter time.

My winter tyre business has built up because of “word of mouth” from the customers that have bought these type of  tyres in the past, and have spread the word, about how good the really are.

Coming forward to 2020 then we are hoping for a cold snowy winter. Because, it will give us a chance to catch up with the loss of business. Of course caused to us by the recent “lock-down” . Consequently, due to the Covid 19 pandemic.

To summarise winter tyres are a major safety asset for your family and yourself.

Winter Tyres Safety Tools-Should I buy winter tyres? – Telegraph.co.uk

Winter Tyres Safety Tools

Winter Tyres Safety Tools

Winter Tyres Safety Tools

As the temperature drops and thoughts turn to winter, many buyers will be wondering once again whether it’s worth investing in Winter Tyres Safety. Here’s our guide.

This is a good article written with some good sense?

In my opinion the Winter Tyres Safety debate should be non existent. Wherever there is going to be a chance of bad weather. So this includes snow, ice and rain. Of course, winter tyres are one of the biggest safety improvements. Hence that you should make for your car and your family.

In a recent article. I explained how some Canadian insurance companies were giving a discount bonus. Thus, to drivers who were sensible enough to fit Winter Tyres Safety to their cars.

Winter Tyres Safety Tools- Insurance companies know when they are on a winner?

Another recent development that i am not too sure about is the so called “all-weather” tyres that are now appearing on the tyre market. Tyres such as the one in the image, the vredestein Quatrac, have been around for years now and if they were going to be a better option for the genuine winter tyre then the Winter Tyres Safety would have gone out of existence?

I would still recommend that my customers fit a genuine winter tyre and not an all round summer and winter tyre, they do perform as well

winter tyre safety
Snow ploughs will be a common site shortly as winter comes sneaking in?

Winter Tyres Safety Tools in winter, its as simple as that.

In my opinion Winter Tyres Safety is not an issue with arguments any more. There are of course people who just cannot afford them. This is fine, but it may just be worth making a small sacrifice and divert e little money away from other less important things, to be able to afford some winter tyres.

This will ensure that you will be safer if winter strikes with vengeance, and you get caught out in lets say a less hospitable situation without any Winter Tyres Safety, to get you out of trouble.

Insight-Winter Tyres- Best Places to Buy Snow Tyres

Insight-Winter Tyres

Winter is just getting started! And, for those who drive their cars during this snowy season, it’s time to get your remote car starter ready and change your tires out for snow tires. It doesn’t matter if the snowy road you’re driving down is dry or wet; having quality […]

Insight-Winter Tyres

Insight-Winter Tyres

I am writing this article, with the threat of an imminent snow storm, here in Halifax, Yorkshire, UK. Hence, many of our customers are already well equipped with their winter tyres fitted to their vehicles.

This article lists some of the best winter tyres on the market today. Therefore, it will be well worth a click onto the web page below. We here at Pellon Tyres recommend a couple of makes. Thus, these are makes that we are very familiar with. Naturally, these are brands that our customers have fitted and are tried and tested.

Apollo changed direction

So since I first wrote this post then things have moved on. As suspected Apollo tyres changed their trading style . Consequently, my tyre business did not balance out with the new Apollo trading methods. Mainly our relation with the Vredestein brand. Vredestein were up there when it came to making winter tyres. Unfortunately, Apollo are now the owners and started to mess about with the Vredestein brand.

Apollo-Vredestein are perhaps one of the best known. We have had good results from economy brands. These include Jinyu winter tyres and also General winter tyres.

Canada Weather Tough Tyres-Learn How to Drive for the Conditions

Canada Weather Tough Tyres

Canada Weather Tough Tyres

In my opinion this is advice from a country that has one of the toughest winter weathers in the world. For this reason, if the Canadians can’t cope with winter then nobody can. So we can all see the terrible driving conditions when watching “Ice road Truckers” on TV.  All things considered, the Canadians sure know how to drive in the ice and snow. Of course they have to be fitted with winter tyres by law!

many European countries are the same but not yet here in the UK. In the long we do have mild winters in recent years. With brief spells of cold and snowy weather.

As a tyre retailer in Halifax Yorkshire, UK. I sometimes envy the amount of snow that Canada can get in most winters. However, the same principles apply. As a result, do you know how to drive your vehicle the correct way in winter conditions? The following words of advice  could actually save you many problems when you are out on the road. Especially in sub zero winter snowy weather.

Of course for perhaps the toughest winter tyres on the UK market we recommend Nokian winter tyres.

New report explores the winter tyre market in Belgium that is expected to grow …

Winter tyre growth expected for Belgium

This week will see the start of colder night in some parts of Europe. The prediction is that the El Niño weather system. So will start again this year and affect the world’s climate and the Winter tyre market . Here in the UK it affects our winter temperatures. Most winters we suffer periods of very cold weather which bring us snow and ice.

Car drivers have in the past been caught out by these sudden snow storms. Even affecting whole motorways (M11) have been cut off with thousands of cars stranded. Caused by their summer tyres skidding and getting their cars stuck.

In my opinion the UK has woke up to our winters. Consequently, we have seen a big surge of drivers fitting winter tyres to their cars. At the same time with a large increase in the Winter tyre market . This has been a good move . So, like the UK drivers in Belgium are waking up to the idea of fitting winter tyres.

Winter tyres are called all sorts of names. Including snow tyres, all-season tyres and cold weather tyres. In general these tyres do the

Winter tyre market
Snow Flake emblem on the tyres sidewall the winter tyre marking

same job and are most beneficial to drivers in winter time.

Today’s winter tyres are a different animal. For the most part to the ones when I first started in the tyre industry. Early winter tyres were virtually a summer tyre casing. In effect fitted out with a very tread pattern (similar to my image of an early Firestone winter tyre). New tyres for winter use have been developed. Importantly, through the tyre companies involvement in motorsport. Especially rallying, where tyres needed to grip. Especially, in very bad conditions and bad weather.

The whole tyre structure had to be developed

Of course to give modern cars the ride that they were used to. This meant more flexible casings in low temperatures. Silica was going to be the answer? It enabled tyres to flex more in lower temperatures. This combined with modern tread pattern design, brought out new winter tyre designs, which performed very well on new car designs such  as SUV’s and luxury saloons.

Belgium like all the other European countries is no exception to the rules and the winter tyre market is expected to grow as safety conscious motorists lower their risks to bad winter weather.

The new revolution will be an improvement in the all-weather tyre. If these are fitted to your car then there will no need to fit winter tyres. These tyres will be fitted all the year round. I feel that this will be the main aim of the tyre companies in future. The trend has already been started with the excellent Michelin CrossClimate. This tyre is already proving to be popular and only time will tell, whether this type of tyre will replace the traditional winter tyres.

Of course we also highly recommend Nokian winter tyres.

Do winter tyres work? A good look at Winter Tyres by Autocar.co.uk

Do winter tyres work

Winter Tyres Safety Tools

Do winter tyres work

So, my answer to that would be definite yes ! After working in the tyre industry now for 40 years, I think I am qualified to give the answer.

Not just “do winter tyres work” but in my opinion the are now essential !what do I mean!

First thing to remember is the massive increase in traffic volumes on our roads. Therefore having the power to stop your vehicle is crucially essential. I personally fit winter tyres on all my vehicles. Indeed we leave winter tyres on our vans all the year round. Including the Ford transit van that I often drive about in.

Vans are a massive part of our traffic

With the increase in van traffic then good tyres are important. Many vans do carry some weight. As a result we have all been in situations when we have had to brake very hard. So, sometimes you only have to look away for a few seconds when the traffic in front has stopped.

This coupled with a wet or slippy road can be the difference between stopping an having an accident. The difference can be your tyres. In my experience then winter tyres have saved me on winter roads several times.

And I dont just mean getting out of snow. Although they do help in that situation. Consequently, winter tyres can be the difference to whether you actually stop the van or not.

Although I say “van” then its just as important for car drivers ! with winter tyres fitted you know that your are in a safer driving environment. Believe me when I say that they will get you out of trouble several times in an average winter.

So, van drivers mark my word ! you wont regret fitting a set of winter tyres and keeping them on all year round.

Winter tyres versus 4×4 tyres-Good solid advice about Snow tyres- tested by autocar.co.uk

Winter tyres versus 4×4 tyres

Winter tyres versus 4x4 tyres

Winter tyres versus 4×4 tyres

This has always been a good talking point. However ,to me it is a no brainer. So, if you need tyres and winter is approaching. Then you must consider all-weather tyres or winter tyres.

Winter here in the UK can last as long as 5 months. Of course it has been known to snow in April and even May. So the investment will be well worth it!

Most compelling evidence to me is the great reports we have from customers who have had winter tyres fitted. It is important to realise the safety features that winter tyres have built into them.

Firstly, the tread is a special design

Tread is designed to be more tougher. These tyres look aggressive and actually they need to be! Secondly comes the actual compounds that the tyres are made of. Of course these days “silica” is a great new additive to give tyre more flexibility in cold weather.

Winter tyres do not go hard when the temperature drops below 7 degrees. Sipes are the next great benefit! these are all the tiny slits in almost all winter tyre designs. Significantly, sipes are the thing that clears away the water, slush and snow as you are driving along.

This combined with the tread pattern helps clear away the dreaded winter weather that comes along every year. In my opinion November is the best time to fit your winter tyres. Here in Halifax we are a 1000 feet above sea level and the first snow usually falls in November.

So, if you live in a hilly area then winter tyres are for you. If am sure that you wont be disappointment ?
